Wooden toys are a traditional industry in Yunhe County—and also its flagship export product. Currently, Yunhe County hosts over 600 wooden-toy enterprises and processing workshops, including more than 200 with annual output values exceeding RMB 1 million, six with annual output values surpassing RMB 10 million, and one exceeding RMB 50 million. Two enterprises have been designated by provincial and municipal authorities as key producers of tourism-related goods. The county’s total production capacity for wooden toys exceeds RMB 1.5 billion annually. Over 20,000 people across the county work in toy manufacturing—including over 8,000 full-time employees. Wooden toys constitute a major category within the broader toy industry and represent exquisite handicrafts that serve both recreational and decorative purposes. To date, over 3,000 varieties spanning ten major categories have been developed—ranging from adult-oriented wooden toys and children’s wooden toys to intelligence-enhancing and functional wooden toys. More than 90% of Yunhe’s wooden toys are exported to over 30 countries and regions—including Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia—with export volume accounting for over 70% of China’s national output in this category. Yunhe consistently ranks first nationwide in annual export value for wooden toys. In 1994, during the inaugural “China Specialty Hometown” selection campaign organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and China Specialties Newspaper, Yunhe County was officially named the “China Wooden Toy Hometown.” Mr. Fei Xiaotong—renowned sociologist, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and prominent leader of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang—graciously inscribed the title “China Wooden Toy City” for Yunhe County. In September 2003, at the press conference for the Second China International Gift Fair & National Specialty Products Exhibition held in Guangzhou, the China National Light Industry Council formally conferred upon Yunhe County the honorary title of “China Wooden Toy City.”
